Performance Specs

Obviously, the biggest difference between the 2021 VW ID.4 and the rest of the automaker’s crossover SUVs will be its electric powertrain. The rear-mounted AC permanent-magnet synchronous motor will be powered by large 82 (gross) kilowatt-hour battery system. Rear-wheel-drive will be the standard drive train at launch, and it will make 201 horsepower.

Charging capability

Every 2021 VW ID.4 will come with three years of free fast charging thanks to Electrify America. Volkswagen says that the 2022 ID.4 will be able to travel up to 250 miles. Using alternating (AC) or direct (DC) current, the onboard charging equipment can add about 33 miles of range in an hour. A fast-charging DC unit will be able to put an 80 percent charge on the battery in 38 minutes.
