What is the difference between the VW Taos and VW ID.4?

There one major difference between the Volkswagen Taos and the Volkswagen ID.4. The new Taos uses a very familiar turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine making 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. In fact, this same engine architecture has appeared in other popular VW models for a very long time. On the other hand, the 2022 VW ID.4 uses a powerful electric motor to produce 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque.

In terms of fuel economy, the gas-powered Taos does very well, recording up to 28 miles per gallon in the city and as much as 36 miles per gallon on the highway when it’s equipped with front-wheel-drive. On the other hand, the 2022 VW ID.4 can travel up to 250 miles using only the electricity stored in its batteries. In your curious, this is the electric equivalent of 89 miles per gallon in the city and up to 99 miles per gallon in the city. However, it is very unfair to compare the two vehicles’ fuel economy scores on an apples-to-apples basis.

Which has more interior room the Taos or ID.4?

Since both the 2021 VW Taos and 2022 VW ID.4 fall under the same compact crossover SUV classification, the two vehicles are very evenly matched when it comes to available cargo volume. All five passengers that can ride in either crossover SUV will have almost identical measurements for front and rear legroom.

When it comes to cargo volume, the Taos and ID.4 split the bill down the middle. The ID.4 has 30.3 cubic-feet of cargo volume to offer behind the rear seat with passengers in place, narrowly edging out the 27.9 cubic-feet offered by the Taos. On the other hand, the Taos has a cargo bay measuring a maximum of 65.9 cubic-feet, compared to 64.2 cubic-feet for the ID.4. All of these scores are more than enough to put both vehicles at, or near the top of their class.
