Does Volkswagen support wireless smartphone access?

Volkswagen is on the cutting edge of in-vehicle connectivity technology in the 21st century. For the 2021 model year, our manufacturing partner is equipping several of its most popular vehicle platforms with the MIB3 infotainment system. Not only will most, if not all of these vehicles be equipped with a large glass-covered touchscreen, but it will also continue to offer access to a wide range of applications – but with a twist. So, does Volkswagen support wireless smartphone access? Yes, it does. Any VW vehicle that is equipped with the MIB3 infotainment system will be able to wirelessly connect their compatible iOS or Android smartphone to the vehicle’s software without getting tangled. Let’s take a look at this impressive feature.

How do I connect to Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ wirelessly?

Connecting your compatible smartphone to the MIB3 infotainment system wirelessly couldn’t be easier. The system is very user-friendly and it will largely walk you through the process. We’ve also included a video to help you more. We know the video uses the coming 2021 VW ID.4 as an example, but the process should work across the automaker’s entire lineup.

• Active the Bluetooth signal on your phone and the vehicle’s touchscreen.
• Look for the VW device prompt on your phone’s screen. It will say, ‘My VW’ followed by the four digits.
• Click on that VW code.
• Some phones will require a PIN. Make sure it matches the PIN on the vehicle’s touchscreen. Select it.
• Accept all prompts and permissions.
• Activate VW App-Connect
• Select the operating system, iOS or Android.
• Accept the connection request and agree to all prompts.

Once your phone is paired to the MIB3 infotainment system, it will be remembered, and it will automatically connect when you are within the Bluetooth signal’s range.
