Is Volkswagen going to replace the VW Golf?

It has been about three months since we learned the news about our manufacturing partner canceling one of its most popular models. It would be an understatement to say that we have had some feelings about it. Since the day the information was made public, our team has been getting a lot of calls and emails from customers asking, ‘Is Volkswagen going to replace the VW Golf?’ To be sure, there is something coming that will fill that space vacated by the Golf, but it won’t be a 1:1 replacement. Is Volkswagen canceling the Golf in the United States?

The modern Volkswagen lineup is built on the backs of some of the most iconic models ever produced in the automotive industry. If someone were to poll 100 people on the street about the most popular VW platforms, we’d bet the top three answers on the board be Beetle, Microbus and Golf – in no particular order. Recently we have learned that Volkswagen is canceling the Golf in the United States. The 2022 Mk 8 Golf GTI and the 2022 Golf R will be the last two versions of the world-famous hatchback available in the U.S. While we are very sad to see the vaunted Golf platform leave, we are very encouraged by the hatchback’s last American generation as well as what the future of VW vehicles will have to offer.  (more…)
