Is Volkswagen really canceling the Beetle?
The Volkswagen Beetle is arguably the vehicle that make the automaker famous. When VW announced that they were shuttering production of its iconic platform this year, nobody at the Team Gunther Volkswagen showroom really wanted to believe it. But as people have come into the showroom to ask, ‘Is Volkswagen really canceling the Beetle,’ we have had to come to terms by continually answering, yes. While it is always sad when a popular vehicle goes away, the future of the Volkswagen brand is very exciting. As a couple of our product experts were talking about their favorite Beetle memories, they came across this touching farewell video produced by Volkswagen. We’ve written before that 2019 is, sadly, the last year for the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. Even though this unique and quirky vehicle is being discontinued, it is going out with a bang with the Beetle Final Edition. We were eagerly anticipating this model, and now, with the start of the Los Angeles Auto Show, we finally have plenty of image to give us a better idea of the good looks of this model. When will the Beetle be discontinued?
The VW Beetle has a long history that leaves it close to the heart for many car shoppers. This model has an iconic shape that has made it distinctive through nearly seven decades. However, very soon we will have to say goodbye to this classic design. When will the Beetle be discontinued? The 2019 model year is scheduled to be the last time the Beetle is produced. What is the Fastest Speed Recorded by a VW Beetle?
Earlier this week, a specially tuned Volkswagen Beetle LSR took to the salt flats and achieved the fastest speed ever recorded by a Beetle. Piloted by Automobile magazine contributing Editor Preston Lerner, the Beetle was able to hit 205.122 mph. With such an impressive speed, you would probably think that there was a larger V8, or even a V6 shoehorned into the nose of the Beetle, but that wasn’t the case at all. The speed was recorded with the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in place. (more…)
